Microsoft is preparing for the launch of Visio on Apple’s iPads with the launch of a new Visio on iPad Insider program. The company is currently searching for at least 2,000 iPad owners who can test early versions of the software on their iPad, iPad Mini, or iPad Pro in English, Chinese, French, German, Russian, or Spanish.
The program will work in a similar fashion to the Windows Insiders program where interested users will gain early access to the app but will be required to provide feedback which the developers can use to improve and refine the product before its official release. Microsoft is interested in feedback on the following features in particular:
- View files from OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint, or files received as email attachments.
- The Pan and Zoom experience is optimized for a small touch screen.
- Turn the visibility of layers on or off.
- Copy the current view of a Visio diagram as an image and paste it in another app.
- Share a file as a link or attachment.
- Find text in a shape.
- AirPrint a Visio file.
Interested parties can sign up via the form on the Visio on iPad Insider program website and users are encouraged to invite their Office-using colleagues as well. The limit for now will still be 2,000 people but there are plans to grow the program later on.
Once approved, each member of the program will receive an email with a link that will activate their account. They can then download the Visio app and sign in with their existing Microsoft account which will connect it with their OneDrive or OneDrive for Business cloud services.
Visio is a graphics program that’s primarily used for work-related tasks such as creating diagrams and layouts and displaying data as a graph or chart. The program (on PC) received a significant update in 2015 which added more file and graphics options and enhanced connectivity to Microsoft’s Excel program.
