Earlier this week, Apple announced it would launch new versions of its iPhones, Apple watch and MacBook Pro on September 7. Last week Nikkei published a report that speculated the company was expected to debut three new iPhones (iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro). Unfortunately, there’s a rumor circulating that the company may drop its premium model, the iPhone 7 Pro, at the launch.
The whole thing started after a report published by Russia’s Eurasian Economic Commission containing Apple’s trademark filings. The report showed that Apple filed trademarks for 13 new devices, with the majority of them being Apple Watch variants. But only two trademarks have been filed for iPhones.
Another hint for the iPhone 7 Pro cancellation surfaced from Mac Otakara, a Japanese website, report last month. In the report, Mac Otakara mentioned that Apple had decided to cancel the launch of iPhone 7 Pro since the company believes it does not require a premium model on top of the other models. It also indicated that the iPhone 7 Pro was simply a backup model after Apple was unclear on whether it would be able to produce adequate quantities of its new dual lens camera for its iPhone 7 Plus. In the event of a shortage, Apple would have had a single lens camera for the iPhone 7 Plus and launch iPhone 7 Pro with the dual lens formula. However, Apple have been able to resolve the supply constraints of dual lens cameras.
Will they ever launch iPhone 7 Pro? The answer to this is yes. According to a Forbes report, Apple may launch this variant as iPhone 8 next year.
Speculation on Launch Event Cancellation
While it remains true that the launch of the iPhone 7 Pro has almost been cancelled, there were speculations that the launch event scheduled for September 7 will also get cancelled. According to sources who have been using Apple’s beta version of the new iOS 10, the operating system was “a total mess.”
The source mentioned in his blog, “The first, and I think most annoying, gotcha of switching to iOS 10 is Apple’s insistence on shoving too much of my data onto the lock screen. And because the lock screen is now a sort of hub for what’s been going on since you last used your iPhone or iPad, Apple has tweaked the Touch ID process to make it harder to blow by all this junk.” Now, it would be interesting to see if Apple can resolve these issues and the Apple launch event will go on as scheduled.
