Apple has only just launched its new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus but that’s not stopping a flurry of rumours starting about what’s coming next from the US tech firm.
The iPhone 8 will arrive 10 years after Apple launched its first smartphone and this anniversary means speculation is growing that this new device will be something special.
It’s already thought that Apple is working on a phone that will feature a bezel-free design, meaning that the screen covers the entirety of the device’s front.
This would mark a major step forward for the smartphone market as a whole, as no other company is able to offer such a design at this time.
Samsung has managed to make its S7 edge include an edge-to-edge screen but this doesn’t stretch to the top and bottom of the phone.
Rumours are also suggesting that Apple is planning to experiment with OLED display technology, as well as curved glass that wraps around the smartphone, for the iPhone 8.
Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive reportedly wants the 2017 iPhone “to appear like a single sheet of glass,” as part of a major design shake-up.
Now another report from the Wall Street Journal is saying that Apple may include an embedded home button, rather than the one that is currently located at the bottom end of the iPhone 7’s design.
This would allow the firm to take the screen right to the bottom of the phone.
Samsung is also thought to be planning to ditch the home button on their Galaxy S8 which looks set to arrive early in 2017.
So when will Apple reveal all about its new iPhone 8?
If previous years are anything to go by the next flagship device from Apple will arrive in September.
Apple always announces the big iPhone updates in the Autumn and there’s no reason to suspect 2017 will be any different.
During the launch we could also see another device being unveiled called the iPhone 7s.
Some experts are predicting this updated phone will arrive alongside the iPhone 8 and could feature an all-new red colour scheme.
Price and specs are unkown but the 7s could be a cheaper option than the ground-breaking iPhone 8.
If you’re after a new Apple toy a bit sooner than September there could be some good news.
A new report from reliable Japanese site Makotakara claims Apple is hard at work on a redesigned iPad Pro.
The new iPad, which could launch in the Spring, is expected to fit a large 10.9-inch high-resolution display into a tablet with the same footprint as the current-generation 9.7inch iPad.
To make room for the larger display, Apple is expected to reduce the bezels to razor-thin strips around the screen.
According to sources with knowledge of the upcoming iPad, Apple will remove the Home Button and reduce the bezels around the bezel – except for the bezel containing the FaceTime camera at the top of the tablet, which is said to remain.
