If you can’t wait for Apple to release a fully working, completely tested version of its new operating system, you’re in luck. Tim Cook’s company has just released the fourth public beta of the iOS 10 operating system for download, and the fifth version for developers.
When it unveiled the new iOS at its June developer conference, Apple said it was one of the biggest ever updates to its mobile operating system in its history. With it, the company is betting big on artificial intelligence: photos, maps, and the keyboard are being made more intelligent with baked-in deep learning.
iOS 10 will also come with, for the first time, the ability to delete Apple’s default applications – meaning Stocks, iBooks, iCloud and more don’t have to clog-up precious homepage space. The update also sees a redesigned Apple News and Apple Music apps, bigger emoji, and a bedtime alarm.
The iOS isn’t slated to launch until the Autumn, but for those who aren’t developers eager to try out the new features, the fourth public beta will be the closest step to the full version yet. To try out the new features you will have to be part of the company’s testing programme though.
Members of Apple’s Beta Software Programme are able to get the upgrade by updating their iPhone or iPad from the system preferences member. Those who want to get the latest test version of the new software are able to sign-up to the programme.
However, as with any beta, it’s likely the code still has a number of flaws that will need refining.
The iOS beta is available on a number of iPhone models, ranging from the 5C and 5S to the latest 6S and smaller SE. The latest iPads and 6th generation iPod touch also supports the OS.
Meanwhile, for iOS users not wanting to update their devices to the beta testing phase, Apple has released iOS 9.3.4. Designed for the iPhone 4S and later the OS fixes a recent jailbreak and adds security fixes for other bugs.
