The iconic smartphone maker, which said it was quitting the smartphone business back in September, has revealed it is set for one final hurrah in the smartphone market.
John Chen, the Canadian company’s CEO, confirmed that BlackBerry does still have plans for one last smartphone release, with a new device packing its famous keyboard coming soon.

He said, “We have one keyboard phone I promised people. It’s coming.”
However Chen would not offer up any more details on what other features the device would have, or when it would be released.
Reports of a new BlackBerry smartphone have been around for some time, with a number of contrasting rumours circulating.
Thought to be codenamed ‘Mercury’, the new device could be the first BlackBerry to run Android Nougat.
It is also thought to feature an octa-core Qualcomm processor, 3GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch Full HD display, 3,200mAh battery, and an 18-megapixel main camera.
This would put the new device firmly in the mid-range Android smartphone category, as BlackBerry looks to strengthen its position in developing Eastern markets.
The news followed months of decline for the company as it struggled to keep pace with major rivals such as Apple and Samsung in recent years.
BlackBerry’s overall share of the smartphone market has shrunk to a fraction of what it was in its heyday during the last decade, although it still enjoys a strong customer base in countries such as India and Indonesia.
