New technology will help patients suffering from dementia to preserve their memories, which are often lost as their medical condition progresses. These apps : Remember Me!, which is expected to be launched this month and The Book of You, which will be trialed program for people with dementia and their caregivers.
According to a report from Science Daily, Remember Me! is an app installed in the smartphone not only for the dementia patient, but also in the smartphones of the dementia patient’s family, friends and caregivers. It uses GPS and cloud connection to give alerts to the dementia patient when one of his family, friends or caregivers is nearby and tells the patient his or her relationship to the person nearby.

The report said that Remember Me! will also flash a slideshow of previously uploaded pictures of the dementia patient with the person. Besides this, Remember Me! will also provide the dementia patient information about a person who called or texted him or her if the person is registered in the app.
News-medical.net reported that the app, which has been developed for Android and currently being developed for iOS, will be enhanced with natural-language processing techniques and reminders of the dementia patient’ important life events. The Remember Me! App also helps in treatment as caregivers can use the app to send reminders and locate the patient. It is the brainchild of students from Cornell University.
The other app, called The Book of You, was developed a Denbighshire firm and is supported by Bangor University. BBC reported that the app allows dementia patients and their caregivers to make a digital life story book for the dementia patient. It contains words, photographs and music.
Making this digital story book will reportedly involve dementia patients and their caregivers providing answers regarding their memories. The app, which will be on trial for three months, will be collecting daily information related to caring for dementia patients.
