India on Tuesday issued a strong diplomatic note of protest, holding Pakistan responsible for cross-border terrorism.
The protest was based on the revelations of a militant Bahadur Ali, who allegedly confessed that he was trained by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and was ordered to attack security facilities in India.
A senior official source told The Hindu that Bahadur Ali revealed that he was trained over the past three years in various camps near the Indian border.
Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar handed over the ‘demarche’, and also a letter from Bahadur Ali to Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit.
Pakistan breaking promises, says MEA
“The Government of India strongly protests against the continued infiltration from Pakistan of trained terrorists with instructions to carry out attacks. This is contrary to assurances given by the Pakistani leaders at the highest level. We are willing to grant Pakistan High Commission consular access to [militant] Bahadur Ali,” the MEA said in a statement after Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar’s meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit.
The Ministry of External Affairs cited the strong physical evidence of cross border training provided by Ali who was arrested on July 25.
The ‘demarche’ to Mr. Basit said Ali was caught with arms and ammunition of “Pakistani/international origin.”
