Apple is expected to announce the much talked about iPhone 7 this coming September. Now, it’s being rumored that the tech giant may also be introducing a successor to the iPad mini 4.
Rumors have indicated that the iPad mini 5 will come with an A9 processor, according to Neurogadget. The A9 processor is more power efficient and that is why the tablet will also be getting a smaller battery. The battery life is expected to stay the same with the mini 4 even if it has a battery pack that’s smaller than 5,124 mAh.
Since the device will have a smaller battery, it will also be thinner than the 6.1mm iPad mini 4. It has been suggested that Apple wants the iPad mini 5 to be at least 5mm thin, according to Mobile & Apps.
This will surely be good news for users who want an ultra-thin iPad, but it does bring one major downside. Like the iPhone 7, the iPad mini 5 will no longer have the 3.5mm headphone jack.
This means that the iPad mini 5 will only have a single Lightning connector for charging and transferring data. Users will either have to get new Lightning headphones or get Bluetooth wireless headphones in order to listen to audio privately.
If this rumor turns out to be true, then Apple is obviously adamant in moving forward with totally removing the headphone jack for all of its future products and not just the iPhone.
It’s important to note that this is just a rumor for now, but knowing Apple’s reputation with how it upgrades its devices, this is not that farfetched.
The iPad mini 5’s display is also expected to get an improvement in terms of screen quality, but no specifics have been given as of this writing. It’s possible that it may have a larger screen resolution, or perhaps Apple will simply give the screen a slightly better pixel density to increase sharpness.
The upgraded screen is also rumored to get 3D Touch support, Apple’s pressure-sensitive touchscreen interface.
As for cameras, the rear-facing iSight camera is believed to still come with an 8-megapixel sensor, while the front-facing FaceTime HD camera will have the same 1.2-megapixel sensor, according to Mirror.
Lastly, the iPad mini 5 is said to come in three storage options: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Like the iPhone 7, the new tablet will be ditching the 16GB internal storage variant.
Apple is expected to launch the iPad mini 5 and the iPhone 7 during its fall event on September 16, Friday.Design & Trend reported last month that Apple will hold the event on the week of September 12. The tech giant is known for launching devices on a Friday and that’s how the September 16 date was deduced.
