When Apple announced their September event several months ago, a lot of users were expecting the tech giant to have the iPad mini 5 in their list of new tech and gadgets that they will unveil. Unfortunately, the September event came and went with no new updates on the iPad mini 5.
According to Macworld, since there was no announcement about the upcoming device last September, it is very likely that Apple is gearing to announce the iPad mini 5 at around March 2017. Normally, iPad minis are released around October and November, with the iPad launches scheduled around March of each year. Since Apple did not announce a new iPad mini, it was then speculated that the iPad mini 5 might be scheduled around March, during Apple’s spring 2017 event, instead.
There have been speculations that the new iteration of the iPad mini will not be called the iPad mini 5, but instead will be named the iPad Pro mini. The newest tablet will have a 7.9-inch screen and will be encased using the Series 7000 aluminum, the same material used on the iPhone 6S.
The iPad mini 5 is said to be powered by the A9 and M9 chipsets, 32 GB internal memory, with a 64 GB and 128 GB variants. Since the iPad mini 4 already had a Retina IPS display, it is the minimum display expected on the iPad mini 5, with the possible inclusion of the 3D Touch. Expectations in terms of camera improvements are low as speculations state that it will retain the 8 MP rear camera and 1.2 MP front-facing cameras.
Another expected update of the iPad mini 5 is the headphone port. Since the iPhone 7 already ditched the headphone jack for their smartphones, it will not be a surprise if Apple also decides to remove it for the iPad mini 5 too.
