This is not the first time that debris from a building under construction has cost people their lives. Mounika Reddy (23), a B.Sc. graduate, had come down to Bengaluru from her hometown in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, for an interview with Infosys.
She had successfully completed one round of interviews, and left the building to call her parents to give them an update. Ms. Reddy was standing beneath an under-construction building on the J.P. Nagar Infosys campus when she made the call to her family.
Some of the bricks fell on her head from the second floor of the building. The incident took place around 12.30 p.m. According to the police, she had stepped out of the office building to hear her parents more clearly.
She sustained severe head injuries and collapsed bleeding profusely. Eyewitnesses with the help of her relative Rama Reddy, who had accompanied Mounika for the interview, rushed her to NIMHANS, where she succumbed to her injuries.
In an email statement, Infosys said, “We are saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place on our campus on Bannerghatta Road this morning. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and will provide them all necessary support in their hour of grief. We are also working with the authorities as they investigate the matter.”
