TSMC has reportedly obtained 10nm chip orders from Apple, HiSilicon and MediaTek, with volume production set to kick off in the first quarter of 2017. Nevertheless, yield rates for TSMC’s 10nm process technology are not what the foundry expected, the sources said.
As with all Apple rumours, today’s claims should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially given the time Apple has to rectify the issue before they plan to announce the devices to the public.
If reports from Barclays Research analysts Blayne Curtis, Christopher Hemmelgarn, Thomas O’Malley, and Jerry Zhang are to be believed, Apple is gearing up to introduce three new iPads during March 2017, including a new 10.9-inch, bezel-free, edge-to-edge designed model.
The reports originate from supply chain sources within Asia, with reports suggesting Apple’s next iPhone update will feature a curved, bezel-free 5-inch and 5.8-inch screen design. – The Barclays report isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Apple’s upcoming 10.9-inch iPad model, with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo saying a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro will launch in 2017 in a statement made in August.
Surprisingly, it appears the three new iPad models will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack abolished from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is said to gain the 9.7-inch model’s same 12-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera and True Tone flash.
