There have been a few rumblings about a new variation of Windows 10 after references to “Windows Cloud” started to appear in beta builds of the operating system. New screenshots reveal that it is indeed a streamlined version of the OS for low-end machines. That and more in today’s news.
- Leaked screenshots on WindowsBlogItalia show a minimal version of Windows 10 that can only run universal apps from the Windows Store, as previously reported by ZDNet. That makes it similar to the old Windows RT, and perhaps a competitor to Chrome OS for low-spec PCs. The language seen in the screenshots (“This version of Windows was made to help protect you…”) suggest an aim on the education or enterprise markets, though. It doesn’t really appear that it’s cloud-based. [WindowsBlogItalia via The Verge]
- Facebook apparently wants to connect you with people you don’t know. A new feature called “Discover People” shows you people who work for the same company as you, are going to the same events, or are just nearby. You can, of course, control how public your profile is so that you don’t appear in such things. [The Next Web]
- The PS4 will soon support external hard drives. No word on when the new feature will get a wide release but the update, 4.5, is in beta today, and will let you expand your PlayStation 4’s storage dramatically. The update will also add custom wallpapers, simplified notifications, and support for 3D Blu-rays through PlayStation VR. [Kotaku]
- Youtube for iOS has a few new features today that will make it easier to control playback when you’re using a Chromecast. You can now control playback through the lock screen controls while you’re casting to the Google device. Also, when watching videos on your phone, you can tap in the left or right side of the screen to jump forward or back ten seconds. [9to5Mac & The Next Web]
