It’s almost time for Apple to announce its new iPhone, which means rumors are flying fast.
On Wednesday, photos reportedly showing the packaging for the new phones hit the internet, offering support to theories that the new devices will ditch the traditional headphone jack for a new system.
The photos suggest the phones will ship with Lightning EarPods, according to 9 to 5 Mac,offering customers free new earphones. They also suggest Apple will throw in a converter, allowing customers to use their previous headphone with the new devices.
Apple didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
Previous rumors have suggested headphones will need to connect to the new iPhone through the charging port, called the Lightning port, instead of a traditional 3.5mm jack. That means the short cylinder at the end of your headphones will become useless. With a converter, you’d still be able to use your favorite headphones with the new Apple devices.
If the converter comes for free, that could certainly soften the blow for those who love their current headphones and don’t want to pay extra to keep using them.
